Rich Peanut Butter Cup Dump Cake (Printable Version)

Decadent layers of creamy peanut butter, chocolate cake, and peanut butter cups make this an irresistible chocolate-peanut butter delight.

# What You Need:

→ Cake Base

01 - 1 box (15.25 oz) devils food chocolate cake mix
02 - 1 cup creamy peanut butter, room temperature
03 - ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
04 - 1½ cups whole milk

→ Toppings

05 - 1 cup mini peanut butter cups, unwrapped
06 - ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

# How To Make:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray or butter.
02 - Spread the creamy peanut butter evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
03 - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and milk until the batter is mostly smooth (some small lumps are fine).
04 - Pour the cake batter evenly over the peanut butter layer in the baking dish.
05 - Scatter the mini peanut butter cups and chocolate chips evenly over the top of the batter.
06 - Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the cake is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean (a few moist crumbs are fine).
07 - Remove from oven and let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving warm. For cleaner slices, allow to cool completely. Serve as is or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

# Cooking Tips:

01 -
  • The magic happens when the peanut butter layer sinks through the cake creating pockets of gooey richness that you simply cannot achieve with fancy techniques
  • It delivers bakery worthy flavor with zero stress and practically no cleanup which is basically the holy grail of weeknight desserts
02 -
  • The peanut butter layer will sink during baking creating those incredible gooey pockets but if it does not spread evenly in step three you will end up with dry sections
  • Checking for doneness five minutes early is smart because every oven bakes differently and this cake transitions from perfect to dry quickly
03 -
  • Sprinkling a handful of chopped roasted peanuts over the top during the last five minutes of baking adds incredible crunch that contrasts beautifully with the soft cake
  • Using vanilla bean ice cream instead of plain vanilla creates little specks of vanilla flavor throughout the melting cream that somehow makes the whole experience feel more special
